Five More Books

Five more books were read during the month of January 2012. I’ve added the titles and scan of the book cover to posts related to the Reading and Book Categories.  Decided that I will continue to keep track of books I’ve read for 2012. It was fun to do last year and I found out that it also provided some value to me. It helped me to organize the library and book shelves in the house.  It also provides a way to remember what I have read and what I have not. Reading is relaxing for me. I sit quite a bit at the computer or have a laptop or tablet in the easy chair. When I get tired of being at the desk or in the office area I tend to curl up with a blanket to read a real book. Taking the mind of business often gives me great ideas when I come back to work.

I have several Kindle versions of books on my tablet. I enjoy the convenience of having them on the tablet so I don’t have to physically have them with me but there is something about turning the pages of a real book – even if it is a paperback book – that I enjoy. I also have found that I seem to have favorite book marks that I tend to use from book to book. Interesting things you learn about yourself when you take a moment to reflect.

Cat O’Nine Tales: And Other Stories

An irresistible collection of short stories from Jeffrey Archer. An English lord required one more chess piece to complete a set that would be worth a fortune. Another man, an accountant, realizes he’s achieved nothing in his life – and sets out to make a fortune before he retires. And then there is the author’s own favorite, “In the Eye of the Beholder”, about a star athlete who has a fateful run-in with a three-hundred-pound woman. some of these twelve stories were inspired by the two years Jeffrey Archer spent in prison, including “Don’t Drink the Water”, the tale of a company chairman who tries to poison his wife while on a trip to St. Petersburg – with unexpected consequences.  Witty, suspenseful, sad, surprising, and unforgettable.

Death du Jour (Temperance Brennan Novels)

In the bitter cold of a Montreal winter, Tempe Brennan is digging for a corpse buried more than a century ago. At the crime scene, at the morgue, and in the lab, Tempe probes a mystery that sweeps from a deadly Quebec fire to startling discoveries in the Carolinas, and culminates in Montreal with a terrifying showdown – a nerve-shattering test of both her forensic expertise and her skills for survival.
